Tips for talking about the assessment with your child
Further Information
If your child takes regular medication for ADHD or another relevant medical diagnosis, please ensure medication is taken at the regular time on the day of their assessment. This will help ensure we can achieve the best and most accurate results.
Talking to your child about the appointment:
Focus on the positives, tell your child we are special teachers who help work out how they learn best and will do some activities with them to find out (avoid using words like 'tests' or 'doctors' or anything that might cause unnecessary anxiety).
Parent involvement:
Parents will spend the first 10 – 15 minutes with the Educational Psychologist. This allows you to have a brief discussion and ensure your child is settled. At the end of the assessment, you will receive initial verbal feedback.
We ask that parents of children with high needs remain on-site during the assessment.
Breaks:
There will be a food break mid-way, so please bring snacls.
Assessment timings:
As everyone processes information at different rates, please note the completion times in your confirmation email are approximate. They depend on your child’s orientation and ability to complete tasks within an expected time frame.
Additional Meetings:
After receiving the report If you require a further meeting to discuss this in more depth, there will be a charge for this consultation. Details of our fees are available
here.
Most people find the information comprehensive, but if any additional support has been highlighted for your child we are happy to help.
invoice
An invoice will be sent after the assessment and must be paid before the report is sent.
