Common questions

  • Do I need a referal

Yes. We require a doctor's or school referral outlining specific areas of concern

  • What is the minimum age of assessment?

The minimum age varies depending on the type of assessment.

For ADHD, assessments are typically offered from age 6+, with 8+ often preferred. This is because children need to be developmentally ready to participate in the assessment process, and it allows for more consistent patterns of attention and behaviour to be observed across settings such as school.

For ASD, the appropriate age can vary depending on developmental concerns. For children under 5, we recommend first discussing your concerns with your GP or paediatrician, who can help guide the next steps.

  • What does the process look like?

Step 1:  Initial Information Gathering: (2 weeks prior to appointment)

    This includes:

consent form to be completed by parents

Information form to be completed by school

School reports, medical reports, any recent Educational/ Cognitive Psychology Assessment reports and psychometric evaluation later decided by the specialist.

    Step 2: Comprehensive Parent Interview

Step 3: Child / Teen Observation (if required)

Step 4: Further Assessment (depending on results from above)

    Step 5: Diagnostic Report

A comprehensive report analysing all the results with a formal diagnosis is written and emailed to parents.

Step 6: Feedback session - (parents only)

Time to discuss the findings and next steps

  • Can I get medication prescribed?

We are unable to prescribe medication, as this falls outside the scope of practice for psychologists and clinical psychologists.

If medication is being considered, we can support this process by providing a comprehensive report and referring you to a paediatrician or psychiatrist. We also have established referral pathways, or we are happy to liaise with a provider of your choice.

  • Is there a waitlist?

Yes. We have limited assessment appointments for ADHD and ASD each year, and these can fill quickly. If we are fully booked, you’re welcome to join our waitlist. We’ll be in touch as soon as an appointment becomes available.

  • What is your refund policy?

Due to the limited availability of the appointments and preplanning work involved, we require $500 non-refundable deposit to secure the appointment within 1 week of receiving the invoice.

Nonpayment will result in your appointment being cancelled.

  • How much does it cost?

Assessment costs vary depending on whether your child requires an ADHD assessment, an ASD assessment, or a combined assessment. These differ in the level of assessment and reporting involved. Additional fees may apply for more complex cases.

Please get in touch, and we’ll help you navigate the assessment pathway.

  • Are there any additional charges?

    • Clients that are more complex and/or multiple neuro development issues may result in additional charges.
    • Travel costs are incurred for any services that take place outside of Kidz Therapy Clinics.
